About Me
My son asked me, “How many books are you going to write?” I responded, “Until I have nothing left to say, and no stories to tell.”
My first book, Freed Bird: Dancing from Flower to Fruit, was released in Sep 2020 and has since won the Distinguished Author’s Guild 2021 Award for Poetry. It was especially cathartic for me because it helped me heal through a divorce while facing a new world. This collection of poems became a bridge from the woman I once was, to the woman who was born from the pain.
I choose to share my work with the world because in a world of billions of people, my troubles can’t be unique to me. I think my stories, and lessons learned from each, are just a vessel for us all to gain something. I thoroughly belive in helping and teaching as we go. The stories I tell will never be without heart, for they all come from a place deep within my chest, a story waiting to be told, a secret waiting to be set free, or a lesson learned that has been waiting to be shared.
I am a mother, a hard worker, a life partner, but at the end of the day, I am just a woman, experiencing and learning life.
Freed Bird:
Dancing from Flower to Fruit
A journey told through poetry and prose, beginning in heartbreak and ending in a place of solace and love. This body of work was a personal testimony to strength, in which Shavannah drew inspiration from her own relationship and love of self.
Freed Bird is a self-love anthem like no other.
Endlessly, I’ll Love You
Through the tender cadence of poetry and the rich weave of prose, we delve into the inner dialogues of two solitary hearts, Noah and Hazel. Endlessly, I’ll Love You shows how two people, set in their own ways and fully content with life, end up meeting and enduring the newness that love can offer. We hear the story through both, Noah and Hazel’s inner monologue. They explore patience with one another, skepticism, and the beauty in the mundane that life has to offer. It’s as though the two were fated, and we get to see how beautifully so.
Work in progress
Shavannah’s next body of work includes an autobiographical tale written through tantalizing poetry pieces, each one connecting you with every memory shared. The story describes, in vivid detail, the childhood trauma that she faced, kept silent, and ultimately had to overcome. Those memories had been tucked away for so long, but in writing about these experiences and bringing to light what was once a shunned topic, Shavannah reclaims much of herself and allows space for peace within by facing those demons head-on.
Additionally, having been built on the ability to persevere and overcome adversity, a fourth book is in the work that speaks to exactly that. Shavannah will bring her readers on a motivational journey, in which she reminds everyone just how much they can get done if they want to. Through all of her healing poetry based on life experiences, this body of work will aim to be a powerful anthem, not because of anyone, but for everyone.

“It is breathtaking, heartfelt, and absolutely beautiful. I love the design and care that was put into it. It is absolutely worth the purchase.”
“You can tell the writer of Freed Bird took her time to not only tell her story but for it to help others at the same time. I am grateful to have found this book and read it no matter my mood. It resonates with the soul and you'll be rereading her poems and wanting more...”
“I’ve never been engulfed in a story like this. The imagery and vulnerability that both these characters have is something that only Shavannah can do. I cried more times than I could count because I saw so much of mine and my husband’s relationship weaved within the words written.”
“It’s a positive and invigorating read where everyone should immerse themselves at least once. The prologue sets up most of the poem’s tone, then moving from one powerful lesson to another. Each chapter contains pages laced with profound words that beckon you to close the book and reflect. If you’re experiencing or breaking through a trial of your own, this book can be soup for the soul.”
“This was such an amazing read. You can see the author’s growth and progression with each page. It is full of rawness and vulnerability and there is a real beauty in the way she tells her story. I definitely think anyone who picks it up will devour it and walk away having felt like they just had a deep heart-to-heart with a close friend.”
